Posture screenings and backpack check extended through the month of September.
Everyone knows to "sit up straight" and "stand up straight." We constantly hear it until we tune it out. But posture can lead to tension headaches, knots (and pain) in the neck and shoulders, sore chest and back muscles, and tingling in the arms or hands. So we are extending our posture screenings through the month of September. There will be no charge for the screening, but you need to call the office -- 785-543-2700 -- to schedule an appointment at the Phillipsburg Chiropractic Center, 875 3rd Street, Phillipsburg.
Backpacks can also be a problem, both with posture and general muscle soreness. Backpack checks can also be scheduled when doing the posture screening.
Now there is another reason for tipping our head forward, for some of us. It is texting. If you watch anyone who
does much texting, you will notice they are looking down at their phone, sometimes for long periods of time. Like reading and the other activities mentioned, this can cause a strain on the neck.
If this positioning is not offset or corrected from time to time, it can lead to problems of tension headaches, knots in the neck and shoulders, sore chest and back muscles, even tingling in the
arms or hands. Remaining in this position for long periods can lead to a degeneration of the chest, neck, shoulder and upper back muscles which could eventually end as a "dowager’s hump."
According to the Journal of American Geriatrics Society, older men and women with this rounded hump have a higher mortality rate 1.44 times greater than those without.
Becoming aware that this may become a problem is the first step in overcoming this problem. Behavioral changes and exercises can help along with corrective therapies and adjustments by the chiropractic internists at The Chiropractic Centers of Phillipsburg, Stockton, Hill City and Norton.
To determine if there is a problem with forward head position (FHP) as well as other postural and back problems call for a free consultation in the office at The Phillipsburg Chiropractic Center, 785-543-2700, 875 3rd St. in Phillipsburg.
Arthritis - Learn to Treat the Causes, not "Learn to live with it."
As a blanket term for over 100 different kinds of joint and muscle pain, 70 percent of the population will probably be diagnosed with arthritis before they reach the age of 70. The two most common and debilitating types are osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
The primary cause for arthritis is inflammation. An anti-inflammatory diet and supplements, along with joint-mobility chiropractic adjustments, are the beginning areas for treatment.
Plenty of water and exercise will then lubricate the joints so they can heal themselves while the body is fighting the inflammation. Water also helps flush out toxins that help cause the inflammation.
To get a demonstration on which exercises will help and how to do them, go to our exercise videos and pay close attention to the exercises for the areas you are having pain, but also the other areas as well. Sometimes pain in one area will cause a problem in another as it tries to compensate. Be sure to download the Exercise Rountine forms so you can keep track of what and how you are doing, and discuss them with the doctors so they can guide you through the process.
